University Room Tour

Saturday, 10 June 2017

My first year of university is over which means I'll be moving out of my uni accommodation in a few days. It's crazy how fast this year has gone but I can't wait for next year where I get to move into my own house! I thought I'd write a post on how I decorated my room which will hopefully help anyone starting uni later this year. I'll mention some good places to go for decorations and some things you should bring.

One thing I noticed when I arrived at uni on the first day was that I needed more pillows to try and cover that ugly headboard! I have four regular pillows, two white cushions (Primark) and a larger leopard print cushion (B&M) which I mainly put on my desk chair. I got my duvet cover from Ikea, don't forget to bring another duvet cover for when you wash the main one! One of the best decisions I made was buying a new double duvet to put on this single as it made it so comfortable! Also a mattress protector is a good idea, my university had already provided one but it doesn't hurt to double it up!

This side table is from B&M, I don't remember the price but it was obviously cheap. This was something I got a bit later on in the year and it's been really handy. The bars on the bottom are so convenient too as I can rest my basket on it with all of my hair stuff in it. There's no point in spending loads of money for uni bits as you won't need most of it in the future.

I mainly put skincare products on my table, it makes it so much easier to remember your skincare routine when it's right next to you. If you'd like to see a post on my skincare routine, let me know in the comments! The 'L' was a gift so I'm not sure where it was from or how much but it's worth mentioning as it's so cute!

A full length mirror was so needed! If you don't get one you'll end up bringing chair into the bathroom and standing on it in an attempt to look at your outfit, which most of my friends ending up doing. Obviously check if you need one in the first place, I got mine from The Range and it simply hangs over the door of my en suite bathroom.

Pictures are a good idea, most people will cover their walls in them but I prefer to keep it minimal. The first bunch are from my fujifilm camera, pictures of minorca, Christmas and most of my pets (minus Marty, the other guinea pig). Towards the end of the year I put up some random pictures I liked. I printed these with LALALAB, if you use my referral code you can get money off: PGKWQZO1

I got a MacBook Air for university, I used my UNiDAYS code for apple for get 10% off, and got a free pair of Beats too which was good! The MacBook Air is a good way to go as it's light, making it easy to carry around campus and use in lectures and seminars.

These photos are terrible quality but I just wanted to show you what I have on my shelves. The shelves at my uni are really big so they obviously store a lot. From the top row, starting from the left hand side is my photo frame which a friend got me for my birthday. I bought some twigs lights from Primark which are battery operated. Two Ikea pots for some storage and a light up board from B&M. Most universities allow battery operated lights, it's worth getting some as they make the place feel more homely. The white dish is also from B&M, I mainly used it to store pens in. I think the two lanterns are from B&M too, I put battery operated tea light candles inside as we're not allowed real candles. The white box is from Ikea, great for storing stationary or make up in. Primark also had cute stationery at the time so I got copper paper clips and pins etc which are on the top of the box. As you can probably tell, I was going for a white and gold theme as everything I picked up started to follow that kind of look.

The fairy lights are from Primark and are also battery operated. I didn't really use my pin board other than to put up some cards I got when I left for university.

Paperchase is a great place for cool stationery, I got this To Do Notes book, 2017 Organiser and pen from there. The Sleeping Beauty castle is a Christmas tree ornament I got from Disneyland Paris, it's so pretty and when you shake it gold sequin stars appear.

I keep some of my make up in acrylic organisers, the drawers are from amazon and the lipstick holder is from Primark.

I brought some books from home for uni which are all from Amazon. They're great classics you should definitely try out! My fujifilm practically goes with me everywhere and I store some of the photos I take in the golden box it's propped on top of. I love crystals so I couldn't decorate my room without a few! The small amethyst is from Mystery Mountain in  Dorking, Surrey. The larger amethyst geode was from a market in Mahon, Menorca. I'm going there again this month so hopefully I'll be able to find some more!

I used the top shelf to keep my uni books, cups and gifts bags on.

If there's anything else here that you'd like to know where I got it from, leave a comment and i'll let you know! (I have a bunny light because my uni has rabbits all over campus, so cute!)

The top section was a good place to store some bags and clutches. (Missguided, New Look and New Look).

Another great thing to bring is a coat hanger! Big coats take up too much space in the wardrobe, so being able to hang them on the outside is so much easier. Mine is from B&M and simply hooks over the door.

I hope you enjoyed this post, leave a comment if you have any questions and want to know where some other bits are from! Do you have any tips on what to bring to uni?

  2. I love how you decorated your room! It looks so light and airy! You've also totally convinced me to go ahead and buy a marquee. That "LOVE" sign makes your shelf look so cool! :)

    1. Thank you Sarah! It's actually just a marble adhesive from B&Q that I cut down and stuck right on. I'm sure it will be, have fun! I love decorating my room

    1. It's just become the norm I guess. I think most people just want to live with their friends and have an actual house rather than sharing with so many people you don't really know. It's a great opportunity to become more independent too when you're in your own house! I'm sure some people do stay in halls but it's not as common. Thank you for reading, glad you liked it, Kara!
