BOOK REVIEW // I AM MALALA

I come from a country that was created at midnight. When I almost died it was just after midday.

When the Taliban took control of the Swat Valley in Pakistan, one girl spoke out. Malala Yousafzai refused to be silenced and fought for her right to an education.

On Tuesday, October 9, 2012, when she was fifteen, she almost paid the ultimate price. She was shot in the head at point-blank range while riding the bus home from school, and few expected her to survive.

Instead, Malala's miraculous recovery has taken her on an extraordinary journey from a remote valley in northern Pakistan to the halls of the United Nations in New York. At sixteen, she has become a global symbol of peaceful protest and the youngest-ever Nobel Peace Prize laureate.

I Am Malala is the remarkable tale of a family uprooted by global terrorism, of the fight for girls' education, of a father who, himself a school owner, championed and encouraged his daughter to write and attend school, and of brave parents who have a fierce love for their daughter in a society that prizes sons.

I Am Malala will make you believe in the power of one person's voice to inspire change in the world.

It's obvious Malala is an inspiration. I mean she won a Nobel Prize! However, the book took ages to get anywhere and I didn't really warm to her - maybe it was because I couldn't relate? Her courage to stand up to Taliban, her enthusiasm towards education and honesty about home life is what I admire most. To read how everything happened is just unbelievable; a Taliban leader jumped onto their school bus and shouted "Who is Malala?", no one answered, but many gazed right at her which made it so obvious. The Taliban fighter then shot her point-blank in the head! All for speaking about her God-given right to attend school! There are so many shocking moments in this book, I can only imagine how horrific it all was. You really get an insight to what went on. If you're someone who finds themselves reading a lot of fiction, or not reading at all, this is a perfect book to pick up. It's inspiring and honestly makes you realise how privileged you are. If you have read this, let me know in the comments what you thought of it?!

CHIDEM MOISTURE THERAPY HYDRATION CRÈME REVIEW

This Hydration Crème promises to rejuvenate and hydrate dull, tired and sun damaged skin. It also aims to improve complexion and help tone skin to create a fresh healthy appearance. CHIDEM have skin products available for all skin types, this particular product is made for normal to very dry skin, including sensitive.
.
WHAT I LOVE:
It moisturised my skin well and left it looking more radiant. I had a few dry patches on my hands and the day after I applied it, they were gone! I'm glad I got this just in time for winter, it's going to repair and even prevent my skin from any dry patches. I really like the packaging too, it's very sleek and the ingredients: Chamomile, Honey, Shea and Pumpkin Seed are a rather unique combination to me.

WHAT I HATE:
My least favourite thing about this product is the colour of the actual hydration crème, it's a pale yellow colour. I just think it would be more appealing if it was white or a creamy colour. That being said, the colour may be due to the natural products in it?

Over all I'd say this is a high quality product that will instantly improve any dry skin and add radiance, maintaining a healthy glow.

Next Wish List

Next is always bringing us beautiful home furnishings and fashionable clothing; this season is no exception. Christmas is upon us and it's time to start creating our wishlists, if you haven't done so already that is! I thought I'd share with you a quick wishlist featuring some lovely new additions to next, including christmas decorations, party outfits and cosy clothing.

18th Birthday Haul!

I was lucky enough to spend my 18th at Disneyland Paris! I'll upload a post on what I got up to, but first... birthday haul! I love reading birthday hauls, they give me ideas on what to ask for, so hopefully this will enlighten your wishlists.

These are most of the presents I received from my family and friends. One of my favourite presents out of the lot, that I asked for from my parents, is the white and gold crosley turntable. I'd already bought I few vinyls so this was well needed. It's a lovely colour and matches my room, it's more expensive than the other crosley turntables but it's much bigger and has more features. My white fujifilm instax camera is also a favourite and I have made good use of it so far. I've wanted an instant camera for a while; so I looked online and compared prices and sizes. This one is for sure the best one to get considering convenience, it's small enough to fit in my tiny bag I used when walking around Disneyland. It looks cute too.

Yankee candles are always a great present, I love them! My friend got me 'beach holiday' and 'white gardenia' to match my blue and white room. The candle holders are from next and although they're intended for tea lights, I'm going to use them for these candles.

I also received an origins mask which has really helped unclog my pores. I got a few samples with it to try out their other products and origins is already on my Christmas wish list!

The cashmere matte collection from essie is so nice! comfy in cashmere and wrap me up are the shades I got and they last long with great coverage. The champney's gift box is another lovely present, the candle inside has such a strong scent it smells amazing!

This YSL lipstick is in the shade Ultimate Beige, the formula is moisturising and well pigmented. The packaging is also really pretty. I love neutral lipsticks and this is such a lovely shade for any collection.

Swarovski earrings are really pretty, I wanted some that I could wear everyday and these are perfect. They're really sparkly which is a must have when it comes to earrings. I also got some Nike Roshe run trainers in black with a white tick. These were perfect as I got them before I went to Paris. They are so comfortable! I wore them all day for 6 days so I can guarantee these are worth the purchase. The last present I received was a bunch of Lush bath bombs! Including Intergalactic, The Experimenter, Golden Wonder, Shoot For The Stars and Sex Bomb. I wish I had the money to purchase every single Lush product, everything I've tried has been great.

Here's a list of some of the things I got in case you were wondering;

Swarovski earrings
Crosley turntable
Fujifilm instax camera
Nike Roshe Run trainers
YSL Lipstick
2016 Organiser
Candles
Lush Bathbombs
New Look earrings
Glass
18 wine glass
Essie nail polish
Origins face mask
Wine
Candle holders
Ted Baker spray and lotions
Chocolate
Friends frame
Jack Wills body lotions

Hopefully this gives you some ideas on what to add to your wish list, or maybe what to get someone else.

Rent beautiful jewellery - Folly Boutique

the folly boutique are a rental company, providing beautiful jewellery for a reasonable price. There is a variety of rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings available to buy or rent. I chose these rings as I like a more minimal style, a lot of the designs on folly are unique.

The prices to rent the pieces are great;
Mei-Li Rose Ring (midi ring) - Buy: £74 or Rent: £18 (for 3 days)
Tessa Metcalfe (single claw ring) - Buy: £59 or Rent: £15 (for 3 days)
Mei-Li Rose Ring (rain drop ring) - Buy: £138 or Rent: £18 "
House of Bourgeois (Anaconda ring) - Buy: £135 or Rent: £27 "
Tessa Metcalfe (three claw ring) - Buy: £85 or Rent: £21 "
I think the price is great, perfect for parties and events, things like that. I tend to stick to the same rings and a bunch are wasted, so this was you don't have to fork out £100 for something you probably won't wear next month. You do however have the option to actually purchase it too which is great.

This tear drop ring is a really interesting shape, I haven't seen many rings that pop out like this. The design is super simple which I love, it also feels a decent quality. There are rings you can tell are cheap, so at least you won't be disappointed when it comes to quality if you do spend £18 to rent them.

The rental service itself is really easy and simple. Everything arrived undamaged and in pretty packaging. It was easy to return, all you have to do is pop everything into the prepaid bag and drop it off at the post office.

If you want to try it out; Get 10% with the code LEAHMARRIOT10What do you guys think about this service? Would you rent jewellery?
